Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher was born in Grantham, England in 1925. Her fame comes from the fact that she is the first woman to become leader of the British Conservative Party and the first woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister 1979 to 1990. Thatcher served as Education Secretary in the government of Edward Heath from 1970 to 1974. In 1975 she became the leader of the Conservative Party. Under Thatcher, Conservatives won a landslide victory in the elections of 1979. She was re-elected in 1983 and again in 1987.
